Health benefits of eating cereal for breakfast

Breakfast cereal is a great staple for a healthy breakfast. I really love my cereal with a bunch of hazelnuts and cocoa and making your own is quite easy. If you want something with a bit of sweetness but still very healthy, I recommend making my instant cocoa hazelnut cereal! The nutty taste of this cereal mixed with the slight bitterness of the cocoa makes for a great combination.

Cereals are often described as a healthy breakfast choice. The main health benefits of eating cereal for breakfast are in the high-quality protein, vitamins, minerals, unsaturated fatty acids, and fiber. Most cereals contain complex carbohydrates that are broken down during digestion and their slow release provides energy for a long time and keeps you full.

I love making breakfast and I don’t take the time to cook it every morning. So, when I have a chance to make something yummy and healthy without adding (too much) oil I am all for it! Hazelnut cereal is one of my favorite things. It is just as delicious, easy and has a delightful hazelnut flavor to it.

You can add some toppings like sliced almonds, dried or fresh fruit if you want. For the plant based milk you can chose your favorite. I love almond milk though – it’s just not sweet enough for me so this low-sugar cocoa mix works well for me.

You can make your own instant cocoa hazelnut cereal in just a few minutes. It’s easy and tastes delicious. You can eat it with some warm plant-based milk and your kids will love you for it!

What are the benefits of a healthy cereal breakfast?

Healthy breakfast like my instant cocoa hazelnut cereal carries many health benefits like extended energy supply due to high fiber content, improved blood sugar control, reduced inflammation and it can also help protecting your cells from oxidative stress.

My cocoa hazelnut cereal is made with millet flakes, roasted hazelnuts, coconut sugar, cocoa powder, and plant-based milk and is 100% plant-based.

Let’s look at the benefits a bit deeper.

First, the millet flakes provide a good source of complex carbohydrates, which are essential for energy production. Additional benefits include improved blood sugar control, increased bone density, and reduced inflammation. Millet is also a good source of fiber, which can help to keep you feeling full and may promote weight loss. In case you didn’t know, millet flakes are gluten-free, making them a great option for people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivities.

Hazelnuts are a good source of healthy fatty acids, which help to keep you feeling full and satisfied. They are a good source of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin E, magnesium, and manganese. Hazelnuts are also a good source of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. Additionally, hazelnuts contain high levels of antioxidants, which can help to protect cells from damage and reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as cancer. While hazelnuts are generally safe for most people to eat, those with nut allergies should avoid them. We wrote more about benefits of hazelnuts for health in recipe for hazelnut bites.

Coconut sugar is a natural sweetener that provides a low glycemic index, meaning it won’t cause spikes in blood sugar levels.

Cocoa powder is a rich source of antioxidants, which can help to protect cells from damage.

Finally, plant-based milk is a good source of vegan protein and calcium. Together, these ingredients make for a nutritious and delicious breakfast cereal that will give you sustained energy throughout the day.
